Leanne Lewis, Fabrication
Leanne Lewis “There is a great bunch of people on my shift. We pull together and really work as a team.”
“I joined Rockwool as a Fabricator in January 2007. I am responsible for setting up machines to cut and shape stonewool into pipe insulation and to spot any problems with the machines.”
“When I first started I was trained to work on a single machine. My skills have developed over time and I now know how to setup and look after five different machines. I have learned ways to judge if a machine is operating properly. It is important to use both your eyes and ears as sometimes you can tell more about how a machine is working from the way it sounds.”
“My job involves a degree of manual work and it is essential that I know how to lift things properly. I have been trained to use cranes and other lifting equipment and there is always someone to help out if another pair of hands is needed to do a job.”
“I enjoy the fact that I am still learning new things. In fact, everyone who has ever given me training has been more than willing to share their skills and experience. It still amazes me to think of the process we use to produce stonewool from rocks. Working here has given me a real insight into an industry I previously knew nothing about.”
