The large scale refurbishment of an estate in Walsall required a partner that could deliver market leading energy efficiency solutions suitable for a major renovation of social housing stock. Rockwool was selected after a rigorous tender process to supply its external wall insulation system across a number of building types to improve energy efficiency in combination with boiler replacements, heating controls, loft insulation. The development, spanning 350 buildings including semi-detached, terraced and large multi- dwelling domestic properties, enables residents to save substantial money on their energy bills whilst experiencing increased sound acoustic protection for their homes. Rockwool’s EcoRock external wall insulation systems delivers a dramatic reduction in energy bills and CO2 emissions for the residents. In addition, the natural stone wool that comprises Rockwool products also provides superior acoustic and fire protection for their homes. Rockwool is also wholly sustainable, using diabase rock that is replenished naturally by geological forces and is completely recyclable at its end of life, providing a cradle to cradle solution.
Beyond Insulation
Rockwool’s key account structure enabled the company to become a true project partner, delivering expert energy efficiency advice throughout the project development and implementation. This has involved U- Value calculations from Rockwool’s in house design consultancy team and regular on-site technical support and product installation by Rockwool’s approved installers. Furthermore, by playing a central role in all elements of the works Rockwool has helped forge invaluable links between installers, energy companies and the local authorities.
Fitting to Communities
Rockwool provided a number of external wall insulation solutions to the residents, which are both sympathetic to the current building facades and in line with residents’ desire for a new community aesthetic. The company provided residents with a choice of Rockwool’s EcoRock insulation system co ated in a coloured render and Rockwool’s Dashshield insulation system to provide a coloured pebble dash external appearance. This allowed residents the freedom to choose the external appearance of their homes that best suited their taste.
Looking Forward

* CESP targets households across Great Britain, in areas of reduce fuel bills. There are 4,500 areas eligible for CESP. CESP is funded by an obligation on energy suppliers and electricity generators. It is expected to deliver up to £350m of efficiency measures.
