Design for learning

Schools are the bedrock of our society and the key to our nation’s future. For students to have the best start in life, enjoy their childhood and reach their potential, they need access to modern, high-quality facilities.

Therefore it is essential that schools are built to exacting standards, made with materials that last and are able to adapt to the needs of the future.

To achieve this, schools must be able to cope with the effects of climate change (such as hotter summers and wetter winters), significantly reduce their carbon footprint and provide a blueprint for sustainable development within their communities.

In recent years, both government and industry have been active in seeking improvements to building regulations. This has resulted in the introduction of a Minimum Design Standard for all Building Schools for the Future and Academies programmes.

Acoustic testing

"Acoustic testing… costs around 0.01% of the cost of a new school building, which is a minute price to pay for schools that are inclusive"
