Rockwool has given 79 tonnes of free loft insulation to Welsh homeowners during the first two weekends of its insulation giveaway, with the promotion due to run for a further two weekends.
The initiative, which is designed to help Welsh householders cut fuel bills and do their bit for the environment by making their homes more energy efficient, has seen 224 families take up the offer, enabling them to make up to £45,920 a year in combined energy savings.
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that fuel bills can be cut by up to £205 a year through proper loft insulation in the average three-bedroom family home. Rockwool is encouraging Welsh homeowners to take part in the free giveaway and pick up enough insulation to heat-proof their lofts.
The final insulation giveaways take place between 9.30am – 4pm on 27th June and Saturday 4th July All house-holders have to do is collect the insulation from the warehouse at John Raymond Transport, off Queens Road, Bridgend Industrial Estate, Bridgend, CF71 3TR.
Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon has joined Warm Wales in supporting the initiative and is encouraging homeowners to take up the offer.
Hans Schreuder, Rockwool managing director, commented: “We are delighted that so many Welsh families have taken part in the giveaway so far and we are confident that the 79 tonnes of insulation they have taken away will make a big difference to their energy costs and to the environment.
“Gaining the support of Madeleine Moon and Warm Wales is a huge boost and we hope it will encourage more homeowners to collect and install the Rockwool insulation that we’re giving away.”
Madeleine Moon, MP for Bridgend stated: “The Rockwool insulation being given away is manufactured in Bridgend and it is great to see a local company giving something back to the community.
“I’d encourage residents to take up the offer and to insulate their homes more effectively and I wish them and the company well in their bid to cut energy bills and carbon emissions.”
The granulate Rockwool insulation is easy to install and just needs to be raked out onto the attic floor, with Rockwool providing a full installation instruction booklet for everyone taking up the free offer.
