Rockwool’s Fire stopping Products
Fire stopping and penetration sealing is the process of maintaining the performance of fire resisting walls, floors and roofs which have been compromised by services or voids.
UK Building Regulations employ the concept of compartmentation to restrict and delay the spread of fire in buildings. This method of restricting the fire, smoke and toxic gasses to the room of origin is especially important in modern buildings which tend to be constructed from, and contain a high degree of combustible products..

When services such as cables, pipes, trunking, or ductwork are installed, they invariably pass through fire resisting walls and floors, so it is vital that the voids created are sealed to re-instate the performance of the fire compartment. As a minimum requirement, each service or void has to be fire-stopped to match the fire performance of the wall, floor or roof through which it passes. Plus the fire-stopping process should also prevent the fire spreading through cavities within the surrounding construction or along the service – e.g. through the pipe or cable.
Service runs could include plastic and metallic pipes, ducts, power and data-cables and each type will react differently to fire. The fire stopping system must therefore be designed, manufactured and installed to cope with the service and surrounding construction.
The right fire stopping product for your project
Rockwool Fire penetration seal products have been designed and tested as a system. Each product needs to be used and installed in conjunction with other products of that system to achieve the fire resistance performance in tested penetration seal applications.
