Meeting building standards

Installing effective insulation in existing and new buildings can substantially improve energy efficiency, with the costs being far outweighed by the lifetime savings in fuel bills. Insulation needs to be fitted to comply with Building Regulations and Carbon Emission Reduction Targets.

Rockwool can help you meet building standards

If you are working towards the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessment, you may be awarded credits for using materials with a low environmental impact, as assessed in the BRE’s Green Guide.

For example, using Rockwool insulation could help you to achieve BREEAM credits in the following sections:

  • Health and wellbeing:  acoustic performance
  • Energy: reduction in CO2 emissions
  • Materials: material specification and insulation
  • Waste: construction site waste management

Please note that these represent a contribution towards the credits and there will usually be other issues that need to be covered as well. We suggest that you get further advice from a qualified assessor.

 Insulating existing buildings

Installing effective insulation doesn’t stop with new builds. Much of the UK’s older building stock fails to meet contemporary energy standards – however refurbishing provides an ideal opportunity to add extra insulation and other energy saving measures as building work is being carried out on areas such as the façade or roof.

 Rockwool and Enhanced Capital Allowances

Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECAs) enable a business to claim 100% first-year capital allowances on their spending on qualifying plant and machinery.Rockwool insulation may be eligible to qualify for ECA when it is used to thermally insulate pipes, depending on the appropriate thickness of insulation for a given application and other requirements. Rockwool insulation products typically used to thermally insulate pipes include: H&V Pipe Sections, Process Pipe Sections, Pipe Section Mat, Industrial Wired Mat and HD Wired Mat. Other Rockwool products may also be suitable in certain circumstances and may also qualify for ECAs.
