Returning Rockwool for recycling
Procedure for accepting post-consumer Rockwool material (recyclate) returned for the purpose of recycling
Rockwool mineral wool products are recyclable. To reduce the burden on landfill sites and to help minimize the depletion of resources, Rockwool Limited encourages the return of Rockwool off-cuts and Rockwool product reclaimed from refurbishment or demolition work, to be recycled.
Rockwool Limited is authorised by the Environment Agency to recycle Rockwool insulation products by fully recovering this 'recyclate' in its manufacturing process as 'new' product.
Rockwool Limited can only accept returned recyclate that is wholly Rockwool mineral wool, is free from contamination and is returned by a Waste Management Licensed carrier. Recyclate may include the following facings where they have been applied by Rockwool – aluminium foil, glass tissue, glass scrim, steel wire netting. If any load is contaminated with other materials or substances, the complete load will be rejected and returned to the originator at the originator’s cost.
Recyclate must be returned to Rockwool in clear, sealed plastic bags, either loaded loose on a trailer or stacked on pallets.
Any transport or other costs incurred returning recyclate to Rockwool’s Bridgend factory are payable by the customer.
Subject to agreement, Rockwool may be able to organise the collection of Rockwool recyclate at a cost to the customer dependent upon the point of collection.
A fee of £40 per tonne is payable to Rockwool to help offset the costs incurred in processing recyclate. A printed weighbridge ticket will be issued by Rockwool to confirm the weight of recyclate returned.
Recyclate can only be accepted by Rockwool at a pre-arranged date and time - any delivery outside its pre-arranged date and time may be refused.
Rockwool Limited reserves the right to withdraw the facility to accept recyclate at any time.
