Returning Rockwool for recycling
Rockwool is a signatory to WRAP’s ‘Halving Waste to Landfill’ initiative. We are not only committed to reducing the amount of our own waste going to landfill, we also support customers’ efforts to divert construction waste to landfill. Rockwool stone wool products are recyclable. Rockwool encourages the return of Rockwool off-cuts and Rockwool product reclaimed from refurbishment or demolition work, to be recycled.
Insulation returned to Rockwool is recycled on site in our dedicated facility and NEVER sent to landfill.
What can be returned?
Rockwool accepts returned recyclate (recycled material used to make new products) that is:
- Wholly Rockwool stone wool insulation
- Free from contamination. If any load is contaminated with other materials or substances, Rockwool reserves the right to reject the complete load and returned to the originator at the originator’s cost.
- Facings that have been applied by Rockwool, including aluminium foil, glass tissue, glass scrim, steel wire netting, may not need to be removed to reduce the amount of secondary processing.
Packaging
Recyclate can be packaged in:
- Clear, sealed plastic bags (max 2000mm x 2000mm) bagged weight not exceeding 20kg
- On a pallet secured with shrink wrap
- In a skip (unloading of the skip is the customer’s responsibility)
- For compressed baling and other methods, please speak to Rockwool
Transportation
- Customer should use a carrier with a Waste Management Licence
- Transport costs must bepaid by the customer
- Recyclate to be returned to the recycling plant in Bridgend, South Wales
- A recyclate return needs to be booked in on an agreed date
- Fee
A fee of £40 per tonne is payable to Rockwool to help offset the costs incurred in processing recyclate. A printed weighbridge ticket will be issued by Rockwool to confirm the weight of recyclate returned.
