Rockwool insulation means in-built fire protection

Fire safety requirements are based on life safety, means of escape, inhibiting the spread of fire both internally and from one building to another, ensuring the stability of buildings and adequate access for fire-fighters to save lives in and around buildings.

Buildings should be constructed in such a manner that if a fire starts, the extent of fire and smoke damage will be minimised and kept as close to the source of fire outbreak as is practical.

The government has published 'goal based' functional requirements in Building Regulations that are supported by Approved Documents. The Approved Documents are intended to provide guidance for some of the more common building situations.

Guidance on Fire Safety is provided in Approved Document B, but there is no formal obligation to rigidly follow a particular solution if you prefer to meet the relevant requirement in some other way, including a satisfactory fire safety engineering approach with due observance to BS 7974.
