Fire Protection - Process Pipes

Circular steel elements to be fire protected using Rockwool Fire Tube. Fire Tube to be securely attached using:

a) 0.9mm (typ) steel binding wire or equivalent at 200mm (nom) centres. All Rockwool-to-Rockwool joints (including the partially split ‘hinge’) to be filled with FirePro Glue prior to installation and held tightly closed using wire or equivalent.

or

b) retro-fit, pre-washered welded steel pins located 50mm (approx) from the edges of both the open joint and the partially slit hinged joint in the Fire Tube. Three pins to be located at 400mm (nom) centres on one side of the open joint starting 100mm (approx) from each of the Fire Tube ends. Two pins to be located on the opposite side of the open joint, spaced mid way between the first three pins. Additional pins to be similarly located either side of the hinged joint.

Cutting
Fire Tube is light and easy to cut to shape using a saw or a sharp knife.

Weather Protection
If installed outdoors, Fire Tube must be protected from the weather. Prior to use, Fire Tube should be stored indoors or protected by a weather proof covering.

Tables below show example of data calculated by Rockwool in accordance with LPC Assessment CC83166 Revision 1. The tables are included for illustrative purposes and give typical guidance applicable only to the set of conditions indicated. Data can be supplied on request to meet the requirements of specific project conditions.

The specified period of fire protection is shown by the above table, together with the thickness of Fire Tube calculated to limit the steel temperature to 550°C, 350°C, etc for this time period. Where a non-standard thickness of Fire Tube is calculated, the nearest available, greater thickness is to be used.
