A
Rockwool may be disposed of in the same way as other non-hazardous construction and demolition waste.  Rockwool insulation product waste is classified as non-hazardous waste (EWC code 17 06 04) and is categorized as “waste accepted at landfills for non-hazardous waste” (landfill acceptance criteria).

Q       Is Rockwool like asbestos?
A
No.  Rockwool is chemically and physically very different to asbestos in important health respects.  A unique feature of Rockwool fibres is that they are bio-soluble - any fibres that are possibly inhaled are soluble in the human body, but are not sensitive in this respect to humidity or other liquids outside the body.

Q      Do I need to take any special precautions when installing Rockwool?
A
A dust mask will not normally be required based on exposure to Rockwool unless, for example, working in confined or dusty spaces or with high speed cutting tools.  In such cases, the use of disposable facemasks is suitable for most applications. It should additionally be noted that all workplace dust is regulated within the UK Health and Safety legislative framework, regardless of source.
